... observations

well, it's 1:43pm on a Friday here at work and I don't have the slightest inclination to work anymore so I'm just going to ramble on a few random things that have been going through my mind lately.

  • people walking around with earphones permanently stuck to their ears.  - i just don't get it. do you really need to constantly listen to music? seriously? or does it help overpower the vioces in your head? ok, great example... we're (abbie and I) having dimsum with my little sister, dad and stepmom. My little sister is eating with her earphones on listening to her ipod. come on. maybe i'm getting older or something but that really bugs me. bad part is, no one noticed (or cared) but me. well, of course i told her to take it off. moving on...
  • "w00t" is Merriam Webster's word of 2007 - yeeeaaahhhh. i know, right? don't believe me? go to m-w.com.  isn't it such a positive reflection of our generation? NOT. oh, and that isn't a typo, it uses zeros istead of O's. ok, to those not acquainted with the gamer vernacular, it's from MMO's or massively multiplayer online games. it's leet or elite speak. yup, western civilization is steadily declining right before our eyes. damn online games.
  • Mythbusters is addicting - i don't know about you but I'm hooked! also, they always have these marathons which i just love! AND it's not a complete waste of time, you're learning too.  notice my shoutout? it's from one of co-hosts of the show. I hope it never ever gets cancelled!
  • America's Best Dance Crew - haven't seen an episode? you should see the Filipino group (at least, i think they're mostly filipinos) and their "superman" stunt. It's just too damn good. Their task was to seem like they were defying gravity and they were soo creative and imaginative. i bet it's on youtube or the mtv site. search it. now. while in the topic of dance shows, it's very very similar to "so you think you can dance," right? just an observation. (oh if you haven't caught now, i'm a frustrated dancer, i like dance shows - so freakin shoot me ok?)

Ok, that's it for now. Need to pretend to be busy again. adios!

... funny quotes

Here are a few random things that people have said to me through the years…

"Bumili ka ng common sense dun sa Tropical!" (2nd Year HS, Veritas) Miss Laly Santos telling me to shut up during what I think was a Chemistry exam that I incessantly complained about. This was when she didn’t like me yet… I eventually grew on her.

"Maganda ka lang ngayon, pero pag-tanda mo pa-panget ka na!" (Im guessing 3rd Grade, Veritas) Fred Suarin. I don’t remember why, I must have been pestering him somehow. O, ano Fred, totoo ba?

"Can you be my girlfriend?” Anthony Oquindo at 5 years old I think… His Kuya Abbie tells him, “No” and then he replies, “But you have to share!” That was when he was interested in older women. lol.

“Did you come from Papa’s tummy then?” Keana Agoncillo at 5 years old, too. My little sister trying to understand how we were sisters since we told her that I didn’t come from her mom’s stomach.

... guilty pleasures

Wow, it's been a while... a loooong while.

I was just thinking about my ultimate guilty pleasures...

  • watching Hanna Montana and The Suite Life of Zac and Cody
    - haha, the story lines are cutesy but who cares? remember when our only problems in life were boys and shopping money? oh, how the years have passed....
  • voluntary reading
    - yea, reading novels is a luxury for me... textbooks are the required reading materials now
  • spicy nacho Doritos
    - lol. im a junk food junkie, i could live off junk food. lately ive been buying those "baked" crap that dont taste like the original at all (well, except for the cheetos i guess) anyways, it's always a treat when i buy the "regular" chips.
  • the daily crossword on Merriam-Webster.com
    - a little dorky, i admit, but it's fun and it wakes my brain up here at work. i've never completed the damn thing on my own (you can cheat and have letters revealed and such) but i always feel like im cheating "the boss" here at work when i do it.
  • pedicures and waxing
    - i absolutely love the feeling of walking into the nail salon and knowing that im going to feel 100% better when i walk out.
  • stuffed jalapenos from Jack in the Box
    - a breaded bundle of mucho caliente jalapeno with a silky cream cheese filling dipped in luscious buttermilk ranch. damn, what's not to love? i try to foget the gazillions of calories in each bite when i eat it.
  • OMG how could i forget... "Rock of Love with Bret Michaels"
    - no reason, i just think it's fun to watch all the girls jump through hoops to win the attention of some has-been they don't know a thing about... fascinating, isn't it?

... that's all i can think of right now, this all sprung up because of the Hanna Montana confession i made during lunch.

... epiphanies

(I know I haven't been blogging lately, been real busy... thought this was blog material)

I've been going to a community college for approximately 2½ years now. At first I was a wuss and took 2 classes at a time, thinking that transferring would take years in the making. Last fall, I started taking 3 classes at a time because I don’t feel comfortable admitting that it took me 4 years to complete my general education transfer requirements. Now, I'm on the right track, and I have every intention of transferring to CSUN next spring. Since then, I've been noticing things about myself, which solidified the fact that I really really really needed to transfer.

Here are the few reasons that made me realize that I desperately needed to transfer:
1. I knew exactly where all the buildings of my new classes were, even the specific classroom - by heart. For me, this is an incredibly bad sign. Have I been there that long?
2. I was the one giving other students advice on which professors were good or bad. "Oh yea, I've taken that class already… take this professor…"
3. I'm running out of classes to choose from my General Certification Plan; I've managed to check almost all of the checkboxes and I'm still here.
4. I'm way past the 101's.
5. I know where all the good overlooked parking spots are. (Example: Where the broken meters are in the metered parking, which are way closer to the buildings and all you need is your regular permit.)
6. I know all where most of the shortcuts are to get to class.
7. I know where the close restrooms are, whatever classroom I'm in.
8. In the first week of the semester, I knew not to attempt to go in the Student's Store nor the Business office. (This may seem like common sense now, but in the beginning I didn’t know any better.)

I could just be a fast learner and incredibly observant… but either way, I'm taking 4 classes now to make sure I have enough credits to transfer - finally.

... my ode to my Baby

I just realized that I haven't posted much about my family in my blog. It is intentional and for very good reason. Abbie has told me that one of the boxes he needed to take back home was inadvertently turned into somewhat of a fan. "Pamaypays" in Tagalog. My story ends there. Abbie has been incredibly sketchy about details but honestly, he need not elaborate. I am very aware with the quirks of my family. Now I wish I'd warned him. "Tread lightly my love because if you think you're on solid ground with them, you are greatly mistaken because the ground turns into quicksand and you'll be sucked in, the same way a blackhole in space eats everything it encounters and you eventually find yourself in a completely different dimension," I should I have told him. Harsh? Yeah right, that's actually an understatement. Oh, my baby, I wish I could have prepared you more - you poor, poor, poor, poor thing. He says he has more stories and now he is thankful that I'm somewhat close to normal, well, as normal as I can possibly become given the state of my oh so less than perfect family. Me, I've mastered the art of repression, I pride myself on having a selective memory. I salute you beb, for your patience and kind heart but feel sorry for you at the same time, because if you didn't love me, you wouldn't have been exposed to the rare specie of people I call family.

... "you move too fast"

this was forwarded to me the other day, just thought it was pretty.

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back. Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin. ~anonymous~

... beauty+love

Quote from "The Truth About Cats and Dogs:"

Brian: "You know how someone's appearance can change the longer you know them? How a really attractive person, if you don't like them, can become more and more ugly; whereas someone you might not have even have noticed... that you wouldn't look at more than once, if you love them, can become the most beautiful thing you've ever seen. All you want to do is be near them."

Do you love someone because they're beautiful? Or are they beautiful because you love them? I was watching this movie over the weekend and this quote struck a chord, it's just so perfect it's freaky, it can't be any truer.
